Our Practice

Founded in 1998, North Suburban Family Psychologists is a group practice of psychologists, social workers, licensed professional counselors and interns, who have been recognized as outstanding among their peers and have experience and expertise in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. We strive to make our practice a place where people feel warmly welcomed, thoughtfully understood and consistently supported as they move toward growth and change.

We are honored to be the primary psychotherapy practice to which several local pediatric practices, medical practices and schools refer their patients. They and we have found that the combination of our particular approach, carefully selected therapists and ability to consult with each other and work as a team when necessary often allows us to succeed even when previous treatment efforts have not.

Our Approach

We use an integrative approach that starts with the development of a supportive, collaborative relationship and focuses first on helping people clarify their feelings, goals and emotional needs. We then work together to help them achieve their goals and get more needs met. We focus on improving self-esteem, self-understanding, emotional regulation and relationships, and incorporate cognitive-behavioral and family systems techniques as needed.

When working with children, teens and parents, we use a three-part model involving individual work with the child or adolescent, parenting consultation, and joint parent-child sessions, tailored to the particular needs of each child and family. Consistent with research findings, we believe the combination of all three often yields the best results.
